Missy: I can’t agree with you statement “That is the worst kind of hypocrite.” I understand you are a person of faith so abuse of faith strikes a nerve for you, but I really don’t see how this is worse than the powerful people who insist we use alternative energy, but willnot allow a wind farm to spoil their view, who insiste we live within modest means whil expanding large engery wasteful mansions, who insist our public schools are the righ choice but send their own children to private schools, all forms of the genes hypocrite annoy the crao out fo me.
I saw the comment as an email and didn’t see that it was in response to another comment. (Hazard of admin status I guess.) However I will say I don’t think Republican Representatives and Senators are notorious for going home with less, Washington has made a system where our politicians are made wealthy.
Missy
Brad, if this is true, why is the source of our recent woes attributed by the deregulation of the financial industry – policy, I might add, that was supported by BOTH sides (started w/ Reagan, continued by Bush Sr., Clinton, and made worse by Bush Jr.)? It is not automatcally supporting “big government” to suggest that there should be protections put in place to counteract greed. That is why many of those laws were put in place to begin with – because of the greed prior to the Depression which contrbuted to said Depression. When it comes to money, I am conservative – spend only what you NEED to spend. BUT neither side of congress is ACTUALLY conservative. At the same time, the guys who claim the name of conservative cloak themselves in religion as a defense to their wrong doing – “it’s okay, god wants me to have…” – regardless of how s/he gets it.
Don’t make this partisan when it doesn’t have to be. Don’t blame me because the “conservative” side of the aisle has chosen to cloak themselves in the illusion of faith. The difference between those shown and those you mentioned is not the level of corruption. It is that they are corrupt but claiming to be men of God. (That is the worst kind of hypocrite.) If you can’t see this problem in the side you have chosen, I pity you.
Brad
What a weak defense. It not as if Frank and Corzine are old news, and the huge influence they both have had on recent and current Democratic Party policies are telling indeed.
But if they do not suffice as examples of rampant corruption and self-dealing how about Pelosi and Reid? Who both have used their positions of power in D.C. to enrich themselves while in office. It’s good to be the king!
And just to be clear, my response was not intended as defense of any corruption by Gingrich or any other person. It was a criticism of this statement by Missy, “All those guys taking big bonuses for running financial companies into the ground consider themselves “good men of God”, I’m sure. Didn’t stop them from baring false witness, did it?”
Working the corruption angle is a campaign tactic the Democrats are bound to lose. The very nature of big government supports and promotes corruption in politics so naturally more frequent and more flagrant examples of corruption will be found on the side that supports big government.
I used a video quote from the GOP’s front runner for head of the party and nominee for President of the United States and your counter example was a retired politcian and a retiring memebr of the House Of representative. I am less than persuaded.
Brad
By gum you are right! What we need are more stalwart types like Barney Frank and Jon Corzine to keep the books and right the ships of finance!
Missy
that man does not now, nor will he ever, speak for me. All those guys taking big bonuses for running financial companies into the ground consider themselves “good men of God”, I’m sure. Didn’t stop them from baring false witness, did it? (doing a lie is still a lie, even if it isn’t saying a lie.)
